Test Lead

Position: Test Lead for Web-Applications

About Xaton:
Xaton is a young and dynamic company specializing in the complete end-to-end delivery of high-impact j2ee web-applications – often with complex interfacing to legacy systems. Our staff are highly respected specialists who leverage modern methodologies (e.g. RUP, AGILE, SCRUM) and start-of-the-art technologies (like AJAX, Spring Framework and a lot more) to deliver the complete SDLC typically in about 4 -16 weeks, depending on complexity. We are active with a range of clients in The Netherlands and want to grow strategically over the coming 18 months.

Your task:
Xaton has an extremely high respect for professional QA, so as a test lead, you will work closely with our project teams right from the very outset of the SDLC. Your key responsibilities will fall into the following main categories:
 You will work to strengthen reproducible QA methodologies to be followed by all Xaton project teams. You will build awareness of best practices for user-centric test methodologies and advise on the suitability of tools and best practices.
You will lead and participate in small teams of QA staff, often involving external testers, to probe and expose errors in functional design logic and application code. You will ensure that targeted test scenarios are properly conceived, documented and executed throughout the SDLC. You will report the results of such testing in an issue management tool and report the status of QA activities to Xaton’s project managers.
When not directly assigned to one of our projects, you will be engaged in a wide range of additional activities, such working with a small team to prepare proposals for projects, investigating improved test technologies and methodologies, participate in training and conferences, etc. At Xaton we know that our people are our key asset, and we strongly encourage an enthusiasm for both personal and career development.

Your profile:
You will have completed either HBO (Higher Vocational Training), University in Information Technology, or will be able to provide references to verify similar suitable skills.
You will have 2+ years experience as a test lead and will be familiar with current QA standards. You will be familiar with testing in all areas required for the SDLC for web-based technologies, such as user-centric tests, browser dependencies, unit tests, regression tests, interface tests, security tests (e.g. to guard against script injection) and performance tests. You will be familiar with test/debug tools such as SoapUI, Rational Robot (or Mercury Loadrunner) and (importantly) with firebug. You will also be familiar with modern project methodologies like RUP, Agile and Scrum. You will be familiar with issue tracking systems such as Quality Center and Jira.

Since you will have close and unsupervised contact to our clients, you must have outstanding presentation and communication skills, be an excellent listener, and take initiative and responsibility. With passion, determination and unflinching commitment, you will accept only pixel-perfect quality. You will be accurate and thorough, and want to fully understand exactly what you are testing. As an advantage, you may have previously done some programming and/or have experience in Java or another object-orientated language. You have excellent verbal and written skills in Dutch and English.

If this opportunity sounds interesting to you, we would welcome your enquiry!
