System Administrator
About Xaton:
Xaton is a young and dynamic company specializing in the complete end-to-end delivery of high-impact j2ee web-applications – often with complex interfacing to legacy systems. Our staff are highly respected specialists who leverage modern methodologies (e.g. RUP, AGILE, SCRUM) and start-of-the-art technologies (like AJAX, Spring Framework and a lot more) to deliver the complete Software Development Life-cycle typically in about 4 -16 weeks, depending on complexity. We are active with a range of clients in The Netherlands and want to grow strategically over the coming 18 months.
Your task:
As a system administrator you will work to maintain and continuously improve our complete IT landscape. At present this comprises a LAN and DMZ with VPN connectivity to our firewall and routers to access 8 DELL blade servers running Ubuntu, Oracle Enterprise Linux and Windows Server 2003, and hosting a range of applications - including SVN, Jira, Bamboo, our website and an ever-increasing range of JBoss web-applications. Printers and laptops are connected via a WLAN.
Your key duties will fall into two categories:
Work with office staff to ensure the smooth operation and availability of all IT applications. This will include the set-up/maintenance of laptops for new and existing staff, trouble-shooting and problem resolution for issues encountered by non-technical office staff and, critically, to take over responsibility for our back-up and restore procedures. You will be required to create and maintain high-quality documentation on all aspects of the IT landscape.
Work together with our project teams to set-up and maintain environments for software development and testing with a range of clients. You will also assist with regular deployments of web applications.
When not directly assigned to one of our projects, you will be engaged in a wide range of additional activities, such working with a small team to prepare proposals for projects, investigating improved technologies and methodologies for IT monitoring and incident notification, participating in training and conferences, etc. At Xaton we know that our people are our key asset, and we strongly encourage an enthusiasm for both personal and career development.
Your profile:
You will be a network specialist with 2+ years of experience that demonstrates your ability to set-up and maintain LAN and DMZ networks with VPN access. You will be able to set-up and maintain firewalls and routers, DNS servers, VPN concentrators etc. You will be familiar with unix scripting (e.g. with bash, cron, etc) and will have experience with monitoring tools to probe the activity of system processes, detect thresholds and generate incident notifications. You will be to set-up and maintain an email server and (on Windows) an active directory server.
You will have privileged access to strictly confidential information and must be uncompromisingly trustworthy. You will visit our project teams at client locations and must therefore have good presentation and communication skills, be an excellent listener, take initiative and responsibility, and accept only pixel-perfect quality. You are accurate and thorough, and want to fully understand exactly what you are taking responsibility for. As an advantage, you may have previously worked as a programmer and have a little experience in Java or another object-orientated language. You have excellent verbal and written skills in Dutch and English.
If this opportunity sounds interesting to you, we would welcome your enquiry!
